Braille-lens

Braille-lens is a mobile application developed to recognize and translate Filipino (Tagalog) Braille characters and contractions into text with Text-to-Speech.

This Android app was created to help make Braille readable, support Braille literacy, enhance accessibility, and reduce communication gaps for the visually impaired and sighted individuals in the Philippines.

Key Features

• Detects Braille characters using a YOLOv8-based model trained on Filipino Grade 1 and Grade 2 Braille.
• Capture Braille using the camera, import from gallery, or view sample images for testing.
• Choose to recognize Grade 1 only, Grade 2 only, or both, and convert them to readable Tagalog/Filipino text.
• Supports different Braille Patterns
• Supports Simulated and Real Braille
• Converts recognized Braille into Tagalog/Filipino text and reads it aloud using Text-to-Speech.
• A searchable reference for Filipino Grade 1 and Grade 2 Braille characters and contractions.
• Includes a demo video and textual instructions, accessible via the “How to Use Braille-lens” button on the home screen.
